Greg Chew's Big Game Not Enough in Loss to Vanguard

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College Hawks hung right with GSAC rival Vanguard university for most of Saturday's game. Stretches of hot and cold shooting eventually cost SDCC a chance at victory falling to the Lions 68-86.

Senior, Greg Chew, got the game off to a flying start for the Hawks taking the opening tipoff and slamming home a ferocious dunk. The next shot by SDCC, a three-pointer by senior Cameron Dashiell, would fall giving the San Diego Christian players reason to believe this would be their day. VU would respond to tie the game and the two sides would battle back and forth over the next thirteen minutes with each team looking likely to grab a victory.

The San Diego Christian shooting would cool over the next two minutes and the Lions would take advantage going on a run to put down by as much as 11. With five minutes remaining in the half, Chew would sink a jumper and a trey to begin a Hawk resurgence. SDCC would claw back to within four with 2:30 remaining in the half. The Lions would stifle the Hawks once again, closing out the half with an 8-2 run to establish a 10-point lead.

The second half would find the Hawks continually playing catch-up, while the Lions slowly increased the gap.

Greg Chew once again posted a resounding double-double for the Hawks scoring 27 points and pulling in 11 rebounds. Ausage Siamu was the only other SDCC player to reach double-digits, draining 17 while grabbing 3 boards.
