Lonetree Goes Yard, Bailey Cruises in Opening Series Split with LSU

Riverside, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College Hawks softball team opened their 2023 campaign with a 6-1 victory over the La Sierra University Golden Eagles in game one of Friday's doubleheader. The Hawks split the series with a closely contested 3-4 loss in game two.

GAME 1

San Diego Christian opened their season scoring account in the second inning. SDCC's Emily Lonetree started the inning off with a single then advanced to third on a Serena Shine sacrifice bunt and an Andrea Thompson single. The senior shortstop would touch home soon after on a sacrifice fly by Hailey Morgan-Voyce.

The SDCC offensive attack would continue in the fourth inning when Lonetree drove senior Alicia Corona and herself in with a 2-run blast to left field. One inning later, the Hawks would double their lead on an RBI single by Corona and a two-run double by Morgan-Voyce.

The six runs were more than enough for San Diego Christian pitcher, Kaitlyn Bailey. The senior shut out the Golden Eagles for six straight innings and finished her complete game allowing only 5 hits.

GAME 2

The Hawks seemed to be cruising to an opening series sweep, jumping out to a three-run lead in the second inning of game 2. San Diego Christian scored on a Chloe Wilson RBI single that plated Katrina Blanco, Marley Rimoldi came home on an Ada Neu RBI fielder's choice, and Neu touched home after a Maya Abrego double. Unfortunately, that would end the SDCC scoring.

La Sierra would score twice in the fourth inning and walk it off in the bottom of the seventh to steal game two, and the sweep from San Diego Christian.
